Sky Sports Living Programme
The Youth Sport Trust is a national charity that is building a brighter future for young people through PE and sport. Through 20 years of experience, they have developed a unique way of maximizing the power of sport to grow young people, schools and communities through the development of qualities including creativity, aspiration, resilience and empathy.
Sky Sports Living for Sport, part of Sky Academy, is a free initiative for all secondary schools that uses sports stars and the skills learnt through sport to build confidence and develop life skills in thousands of young people, and this year over 1500 schools will take part from the UK and Ireland. Participating schools will receive free t-shirts and two free visits from one of our world class Athlete Mentor team who have been selected for their ability to engage with young people through their own stories of struggle and success, including challenges they have overcome such as bullying, dyslexia, exclusion and living with a disability.
The youth sport trust in partnership with Sky sports work alongside a variety of schools using athlete mentors to help introduce and build on six key areas to success, which have been developed in partnership with the British athlete’s commission. These include:
- Mental toughness
- Hunger to achieve
- People skills
- Sports and life knowledge
- Breaking barriers
- Planning for success
The six keys to success are designed to help young people develop valuable life skills that will help them in and outside of school, now and into the future. The Athlete Mentor will use the six keys to success when they come to do your Project Visit and work with your project group to help them build valuable life skills.
