David Lammy MP visits Pupils at Harris Academy Tottenham
David Lammy, Member of Parliament for Tottenham, visited our academy and spoke to pupils from our primary school right through to our sixth form.
David Lammy’s first stop on his tour was the primary school, where he met with pupils from the Primary Parliament and heard about their involvement in decision-making at the school.
He then delivered an assembly and hosted a Q&A session with secondary students, before holding a discussion with our sixth formers.
Lisa Kattenhorn, Principal of Harris Academy Tottenham, said:
“It was fantastic for our pupils to hear how David, who was born and grew up near our academy, achieved success through his hard work and determination.
“We want Harris Tottenham pupils to be engaged with what is going on in the world around them, so it was great that David was able to answer their questions from a place of real personal experience. I know that it was particularly exciting for our Primary Parliament to meet someone who has been a Minister and works in the UK Parliament!
“I’m very proud of all of our pupils – from the youngest primary children to our sixth formers – who were mature, welcoming and intellectually curious throughout the visit. It was a great learning experience and they took full advantage of the opportunity.”
David Lammy MP said:
“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Harris Academy Tottenham and I am very grateful to the staff and pupils for such a warm welcome.
“It was wonderful to meet the Primary Parliament as well as speaking to the secondary students and sixth formers, and all the pupils that I met were clearly very motivated, bright and politically engaged. I am delighted to see Harris Academy going from strength to strength in being rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted and look forward to coming back to visit soon.”
